Fun Technique

So one of my good friends sent me this envelope with crazy beautiful and fun writing. She also sent me some hand outs on the techniques. (I am not too good at reading directions kind of like a man putting something together or a MAP!) I needed to send something off and the envies I had were too small so I had to make one and I used the opportunity to use the tech nique. No way is it as good as Reen but it was fun :)

One of the best parts of my work is being able to meet wonderful people and getting to know them even if for just a little while. This is so vintage for me I think I did it 4 or 5 years ago. OK that doesn't sound THAT old but when you have only been doing Calligraphy for 7 years compared to my colleagues that have 30-40 years under their belt feels like forever ago. The words still ring true though!

So my boss left for a new job in a new town on Friday. I wanted so bad to make something elaborate for her because even through our differences we had really grown in the respect for one another and just had a great relationship! (this is my day job not my real work of Calligraphy...lol) In a place that has as much politics as there is having the relationship such as this is so appreciated. But unfortunately time as it always does got away from me. I did though sit down and really put my heart into a card for her.

Because I did like it so much I made a few alternate versions that I will put in my Etsy shop!!

Even though I will miss her I am so happy for her and her family!! New adventures!

I worked with such a great Bride recently. She was ON THE BALL had her lists formatted perfect sent materials way early ... just all around terrific! (I know this sounds so easy but believe me it is so much appreciated by all calligraphers). I only did place cards for her but sure wish I could have done more.

I have always been so blessed with wonderful brides. I laugh whe I watch the show Bridezillas because I could not even imagine dealing with someone like that. I guess Indiana hasn't grown them like that!! Thank you Suzanne for being so great!

A card a day...

Starting Monday June 6 I am going to start a personal campaign "A card a Day!" For at least 30 days I want to make at least 1 card per day. Simple to elaborate depending on the day I am sure. I want to stock up my Etsy store and really get my feet wet. I have been doing research on new techniques for a few weeks now and I have a wonderful callig friend MAUREEN!!! Who has passed along some wonderful materials so I am really stoked about jumping in. If I could stop working outside the home for a bit then maybe I could get more done :)

State Fair is a definite on the agenda this year... (I have said that for the last 5 but each year I get closer and closer) Baby steps.

I am so super excited that I couldn't wait to tell everyone... I am finally taking the leap to advertise with Perfect Wedding Guide. I am so motivated to get energy pumped back into my Calligraphy business. I miss it!! I had to step away for a bit to concerntrate more on school but I am back!! No... I am not giving up on school but rearranging other things in my life to make room for what makes ME more happy and that is my art (of course second to my wonderful family :)

Boy I really needed MY creative outlet today. It has been a little hard training myself to be a different kind of artist. OK "little" is a HUGE understatement. But regardless I have to do it to succeed in my ultimate goal.

So today for a littel bit anyway I put the school work to the side and I made my ATCs that were suppose to be shipped out May 1... sorry Ladies! Punctuality has not been my strong suite when it comes to "fun stuff" so many things I have to meet so I have to put my fun on the back burner. There is a photographer that I found on facebook

This is going to be such an exciting year!! I am really looking forward to new projects and meeting new people. As most people know I have been attending college going into my 3rd semester now. Academy of Art University which is the number 1 Art school in the country. Boy can you tell. They pile the work on you!! But I feel really blessed to have the knowledge they provide. It is amazing. I took a Calligraphy class with the master Ann Miller and I learned 8 new hands including a few Gothic and Black letter. I never really liked black letter but I fell in LOVE with Bastard hand. That is the hand I used to do my Halloween envelopes.

I am learning more about how to design. Less is better in more cases than not. Which is weird for me because I always thought MORE THE BETTER. But I am understanding the beauty of a bold statement without all the "extras" involved. (although there are still those occasions when over the top is called for :) So to everyone have a wonderful new year and I look forward to working with you and your families!!

I recently had to pleasure to work with Gene with Detail & Design http://www.detailanddesign.com/ out of Indianapolis. It was a rush job so I didn't get to know him as well as I would have liked but hoping to have the opportunity again soon. These are holiday party invitation sets. Outer envelope and RSVP envelope (which is the smallest envelope I have ever done 3X5 inches) I am happy with the way they turned out.

Ann's colors were black and white with Gold as an accent. I wanted to make sure she had some gold incorporated into her table numbers. So I opted to do "table" in gold with the numbers in Black and a white cotton stationery. Ann was pleased and had a TERRIFIC elegant wedding & reception.

Jackie and Don were high school sweethearts in the 1950s! They lost touch... both married and were windowed. They reunited and found each other again. This is the second time I have worked with Mac. First in 2007 on her son's wedding and now on her daughter's wedding. This is a "contract" that is signed by the Bride and Groom with their vows and then the family and friends sign it as well. They then frame it to keep in their home. I love being a part of this. First of all isn't her name beautiful in itself? Jaclyn was such a sweetheart to work with. We did a brown Ginger on a metallic light gold envelope. The address as well as the return address needed to be done. It was a challenge but with all challenges we take away a learning experience. They are turned out beautifully and she and I were both very happy with the outcome.

Lindsey did the flowers in watercolor and I matched the ink color and scripted the wording. Working with Cathy on addressing her invitations was wonderful. Walnut Ink is one of my favorite mediums and I love the pink with Brown combination. With the Satin texture of the envelopes it gave such a perfect effect. I did the outer address as well as return address and stuffed them to be mailed. We were able to find the perfect stamp of love being carried to the family that accented perfectly.

She then topped it off with Place cards that were in the pink color ink, almost a fuschia. It was truly a pleasure to work with Cathy and her family to make her day wonderful.
